Going Beyond the Binary: Research Mathematics and Gender

About Us

The nonbinary mathematics project aims to develop ways to better understand how gender and mathematics relate to one another in today's world.
We have worked with students (aged 18-24 years) who self-identify as not conforming to a cis-gendered binary of male/female to map their experiences of learning mathematics and their experiences of learning gender, exploring the connection (if any) between the two.
We are an explicitly trans positive project advocating for trans-liberation, including (but not limited to) full access to trans-affirming healthcare and education, self determination and legal protection from discrimination.
In working to better understand the experiences of genderqueer, nonbinary and trans students we aim to contribute to a nonbinary future in the field of mathematics education.
